What types of events do you offer?
Gather Mahj specializes in private mahjong parties, beginner lessons, neighborhood gatherings, charity fundraisers, country club events, and custom mahjong experiences. Whether you're hosting four friends or a larger group, we'll help create a memorable event.
Do I need to know how to play?
Not at all! We love introducing new players to American Mahjong. Whether everyone is a beginner or your group has a mix of experience levels, we'll tailor the event to fit your guests.
Do I need to provide tables?
Not necessarily. If needed, we can provide folding card tables for your event. We'll work with you to determine the best setup for your space.
How many people can you accommodate?
We can host events for both small and large groups.
We have tiles, racks and mats to accommodate 10 tables (40 players).
Do you provide the National Mah Jongg League cards?
Yes. We have current NMJL cards available for groups of up to 8 players.
For larger events, guests should bring their own current cards.
What should my guests bring?
Just themselves! If your group has more than eight players, each additional player should bring their own current NMJL card. Otherwise, we provide everything needed for play.
How much space do I need?
For in-home events, we’ll work with you to determine the best layout leveraging your existing tables. If needed, we can provide 1 to 3 card tables, as well.
How long are events?
Most events last 2–3 hours, but we're happy to customize the timing to fit your gathering.
Do you travel?
Yes! GatherMahj serves the Raleigh area and surrounding communities. If you're outside our normal service area, reach out—we're happy to discuss travel options.
Can you teach just a few friends?
Absolutely! Private lessons for small groups are one of our favorite ways to introduce people to the game. Learning together with friends makes mahjong even more fun.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 3–4 weeks in advance, especially for weekends, though we'll always do our best to accommodate last-minute requests if we're available.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the type of event, group size, and location. Contact us for a personalized quote—we'll be happy to create an experience that fits your needs.
Private beginner sessions start at $250 for 4 players.
